Odex got kancho-ed

Posted by victor

hey my friend told me that the papers mentioned yesterday that odex is not pursuing the matter anymore… straits times home section… anyone can check up coz i’m in school now and dun have straits times with me…

anyway i read up on the copyright law, http://agcvldb4.agc.gov.sg/, look for copyright act. Apparently IP or any software cannot be listed as evidence. from what i understand right, say they want to show that you have a soft copy of a movie, they have to obtain the medium (be it HDD, DVD, etc) within which the soft copy is located. And for them to get that, they probably have to obtain search warrants for your home and properties for an extensive search. Therefore getting IP is just called simply not enough, they have to follow up which by now smart people would already know what to.

just my 2 cents worth and 1 hour worth of reading, correct me in anyway i am wrong please i would like to know…

anyway biz law is quite fun…. haha learn how to argue!!! :D

Odex got kanchoed online, I would agree. Interestingly, they made the most revenue at NUS anime bazaar.

A little advice for you though. In order to argue effectively, use proper grammar. It makes a whole lot of difference to how people perceive your arguments.

Well, the article was on Tuessday’s newspapers.

Well, even if the data was wiped clean, the very fact that people wiped their HDD after getting the letter would be quite revealing.

    Well……………………………..

What’s the chance that the same people who got the letter know how to delete their data cleanly?

The hdd will still have a log of what files was contained, even for deleted files too.

So… means odex would have to pay some guy to dig up the info from the hdd, it’s not too hard anyway.

And cheers to a future (and potentially) successful partnership between NUS anime/manga club and SMU Jap cultural club. muahahaha, kick ntu’s ass.
