Things you need:
- A Wordpress blog
- Pictures you want to upload to a post
I believe many of us prefer to upload images directly to FTP servers and hotlink from there but that is only efficient when you have a tonne of images to upload at once for a single post. Therefore I shall perform an example right now to guide you guys.
First thing you will see when writing a post is this page:

Click on the ‘Browse’ button in the ‘Upload’ box below and this typical window should pop up:

Select the image you intend to upload and click on ‘Open’, followed by the ‘Upload’ button in the ‘Upload’ box. You do not have to pay any particular attention to the ‘Title’ or ‘Description’ blank space as they are for easy classifying purposes. Just key in whatever you please.
After giving the system some time to process your upload, the box automatically switches to the ‘Browse’ tab and you will be able to see… well, browse your various uploaded images in the form of thumbnails:

Click on any of the thumbnails representing the images you uploaded, and you see a series of options appear on it:

Notice the first option in the list says ‘Using Thumbnails’. Clicking on it yields a change in option to ‘Using Original’:

Wordpress automatically generates thumbnails for all your images uploaded via the uploading method taught in this tutorial. While in the ‘Using Thumbnails’ mode, whatever links you send to your editing box will appear as thumbnails in the post.
Let’s have an example preview:
Sending to editor when option displays ‘Using Thumbnails’:
![]()
Sending to editor when option displays ‘Using Original’:

To send the image link to your editing box, just simply click on the option ‘Send to editor’ for the image you want. Note that the HTML code link appears where your cursor is. So do remember to position the cursor in the editing box where you want the image to be before clicking on ‘Send to editor’. If not, the code will appear on top of the post and you have to ‘Cut’ & ‘Paste’.
After clicking on ‘Send to editor’, something similar should appear:

Notice your previously keyed in ‘Title’ for the image appears in the ‘alt’ area, not that it matters. Whatever is in the ‘alt’ field is the text that viewers will see when the image fails to load, if anyone’s interested in knowing that is.
You may continue to upload more pictures by clicking on the ‘Upload’ tab in the thumbnail browsing box and repeat the procedure. This concludes the tutorial.
Let’s have a last picture upload:

This is good. Thanks.
You’re welcome.
You could use Windows Live writer as alternative.
