New Feature: Latest Comments! + Singer Recommendations

I’ve realised that it sucks to have to check one-by-one which posts have been replied to so I installed a plugin to allow viewing of latest comments. Like my uber cool SAUCE-dan.

Just finished Honey and Clover and though the OPEDs were quite nice, the one that drew my attention was Hachigatsu no Serenade, which translates to August’s Serenade, sung by Suga Shikao.

And Suga Shikao’s songs aren’t too bad at all. Chill-out music that makes you wish you had the SACD. But for the time being, X-Fi+Grado SR80 is godly for me. Fish Leong once gave me the same feeling but now no longer so. Sorry but she sucks now. Same goes with Jay Chou whom I’ve stopped buying his albums after “November’s Chopin”. The only modern Chinese musicians I support are FIR.

BTW The OP for Red Garden ‘Jolly Jolly’ is very FIR-jazz-styled. Should give it a shot. Coincidentally, the band who sang it also has two guys one girl. I see DAI has a significant influence here.

Yui - Rolling Stars january 17th…

or u cld listen to christmas carols on radio… like “last christmas i gave u my heart, but this christmas u gave it away….”

    Thank you.

Suga Shikao rawks, just like Honey and Clover. Your loss if you refuse to watch it.

I declare I only like YUI’s Life and Tomorrow’s Way. Other than that, nothing really spectacular.

den ur missing out a lot of good stuf i guess… different preferences no comments

One singer doesn’t make a difference, especially when the voice is about mediocre. Good songs yes, spectacular no. I’m not thrashing YUI or anything, she’s good and her songs are goodand catchy. But I’ve listened to more rather than stick to first love. Hirano Aya isn’t the best seiyuu, neither is KOTOKO the best eroge singer. In fact, they are far from it. First impressions can’t really be considered deceiving when it comes to songs, but it can become an obstacle preventing you from exploring more.

At least 5 anime studios, tonnes of mad songs and a fucking FUCKING high budget. You pass Honey and Clover, you’re passing the efforts of all the above in this massive project. Frankly speaking, this is the first time I’ve seen such a massive project. It isn’t really a godly anime but it’s damn good and definitely a classic. Not that it has anything to do with you though.

but yui’s rolling star is really quite good…more hyper than life or tomorrow’s way but still good…

i dun quite like the red garden op…

and interestingly enuf the la corda d’oro op, though with quite a bit of english here and there, appeals more than a little to me…i guess it must be the music…

Regarding ‘Jolly Jolly’, I’m not surprised that you don’t like it. I didn’t like it myself in the first place. Especially the starting is a turn-off to first-time listeners. But when the music really starts, it’s quite cool jazz but I don’t think I’ve ever heard of you raving over any jazz music so maybe you don’t like the genre.

YUI’s songs are all “really quite good”. Same goes with Suga Shikao. I never compared any of them, just that getting stuck with 1 singer and not listening to others because “one is good enough for me” pisses me off.

I was about to post about us anime watchers being unable to move out towards other genres because we stick to certain singers/genres/songs, then I saw YL’s posts. Quite agree, actually. Liking a singer totally shouldn’t be an excuse for one to coop up and not explore the other genres.

Preferences shouldn’t be be forced, but really, if you don’t watch, and don’t listen, you’ll never know if it is really THAT good.

If you listen, and you like, then ok.

Rather than moving out towards other genres, it’s more like we won’t frequent non-anime related songs. At least for me at this point in time that’s the way, I just expand my playlist library from the songs to the singer’s albums and that’s pretty much the way i listen to music. Unless I hear some really nice tune on radio, I won’t bother to go out of my zone, which is already big enough.

A year ago when I wasn’t fully into otaku-ism I was on a cd-buying spree with my friend at That CD Shop near Isetan. Bought quite a lot of good stuff, from classical to disco to bossa nova. Good stuff. Now it’s in a box somewhere though.

Maybe I’ll go dig it up again sometime. The Cafe Del Mar 25th Anniversary album i had was such a blast. Almost every track made me orgasm. Power.

Asoukai >> You have good jazz?

  11. 11 victor

lol perhaps vast listening source differences may result in vast music preference… like how yuan lin can’t stand korean songs… haha

i started off picking up songs off chinese radio so perhaps tat plays a part in me liking pop/pop rock/rock songs… so ya jazz turns me off… so does classical… well vast differences like i said…

so where do we draw e line btwn good and no good? conclusion.. everyone’s line is different.. stick to ur line and live wif it coz tat’s truely u :)

  12. 12 LianYL

    “Truly” not “truely”.

The problem is we’re not talking about preferences here. And I don’t hate Korean music. I hate the entire language.

  13. 13 Asoukai

Jazz music I have little. I’m more into bossa nova.

  14. 14 LianYL

You mean like Neko Mimi Mode? lol

  15. 15 Xak

Jazz is fine with me mostly. Just not for too long a period. My favourite type of song is exemplified by YUI’s Rolling Star and Houki Boushi, Horie Yui’s Hikari (Inukami! OP) and Hikita Kaori’s Egao no Wake (Shounen Onmyouji OP). Rather lively with a fast beat and melody. But I also like songs with more emotion but still rather fast like Kanon’s Brand New Breeze (La Corda D’Oro’s OP), Fujiya Misato’s Kokoro Niji no Kakete (Gift ~Eternal Rainbow~ ED). Some older examples would be savage genius’ Inori no Uta (Simoun ED) and eufonius’ Guruguru ~himawari version~ (Himawari! ED).

I also have a soft spot for songs that incorporate acoustic guitar (SNoW’s Sakasama no Chou, YUI’s Tomorrow’s Way Acoustic Version).

And I’d never give up on instrumental, like my LotR and Star Wars soundtracks.

  16. 16 Asoukai

Neko Mimi is not really bossa nova. There was some techno and disco + a few others infused in it. I got bored of it after a while.

People who like bossa nova can never get tired of it because it’s so smooth, and easy on the ears.

  17. 17 Victor

shit la… listen to savage garden… :P nic wld agree…

  18. 18 Xak

lol i like savage garden too…
